Sean O`Driscoll has admitted that he would like to keep defender Jason Shackell at the club when his loan ends in January.

Shackell has become an important part of the Rovers defence since his arrival from Wolves in August and as quickly become a fans favourite.

Speaking on the official website O`Driscoll said “Jason is somebody that we would like to keep”.

The 26 year old is also hopeful of extending the stay has he doesn`t see himself featuring in the first team if he was to go back to Molyneux.

Although O`Driscoll would like to keep him he admits that it`s doubtful that he could afford to bring the player to the club, continuing O`Driscoll said “I spoke to him and told him that if I could bring him into the squad permanently, then I would. That would probably be a bit difficult for us at this minute in time”.

Shackell has made fourteen starts so far this season and scored one goal against Peterborough United in October.
