Former Doncaster Rovers defender Sean McDaid is once again facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after needing surgery on his knee.

The 24 year old is set to miss the rest of the season after needing surgery on his right knee after suffering the injury in last weekends defeat at Exeter City.

McDaid joined Carlisle in the summer in a one-year deal after being released by Rovers after eighteen months on the sidelines through injury at the Keepmoat.

The former Leeds United youngster suffered a dislocated knee in training that required surgery at Doncaster in April 2008 and his only appearance for the club between then and the end of the 2009/10 season was against Middlesbrough.

The deal when he joined Carlisle was to include an extra year`s contract should he play 30 games for the Cumbrian club.

The left back had been an ever present in the Carlisle side this season, making fourteen appearances before his injury curse struck again.
