Former Doncaster Rovers striker Darren Byfield has joined ex Rovers manager Dave Penney at Oldham Athletic.

Byfield was released by Rovers at the end of the season after disappointing in his one season at the club.

The striker has joined Oldham on a short term contract after spending the summer with them on trial. Byfield aslo had a short loan period at Boundary Park last season.

Also joining Penney is another former Rovers player, Peter Gilbert who spent a short period on loan at Belle Vue from Sheffield Wednesday under Penney, has also signed a short term contract for the League One club.
