Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson felt his side were ruthless once they went ahead for a second time against Leyton Orient.

Doncaster kept their promotion push on track with a 4-1 win but they were made to work hard by the Football League`s bottom placed club.

Tommy Rowe had fired Doncaster into the lead but they were pegged back just before the break when Tom Parkes equalised.

Doncaster put their foot on the gas in the second half and two goals from leading goalscorer John Marquis and one from Mathieu Baudry ensured they continued their push for an instant return to League One.

‘Once we got the second goal, we were pretty ruthless,’ Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield .

‘In the first half, we didn’t do the basics well enough, we were a bit ill-disciplined in that sense.

‘So we just said at half-time to do the basics right and be a bit more concentrated and disciplined and of course, we knew we would get chances.

‘We missed three really good ones at 1-1 but the second goal came from great pressing and it’s a fantastic finish. An outstanding finish. Then the third and fourth killed it.

‘It’s a fantastic win for us, four more goals and 78 points. We are in the right place at a pivotal time in the season.’

Doncaster are now six points clear of second placed Plymouth Argyle and a massive seventeen points clear of the play-off places with just eight games remaining this season.
