Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson felt it was a crucial win after his side came away from Bristol Rovers with all three points in a 1-0 win.
Niall Mason scored the only goal of the game for Doncaster from the penalty spot to end a run of three games without a win and lift Doncaster four points clear of the relegation places.
‘We needed it,’ Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.
‘It was a very important game.
‘Looking at the league table before the match, we knew we could lift ourselves up a right few positions and that’s what we’ve done.
‘It’s a tough place to come, the pitch is horrible, the atmosphere can be real intimidating here because the fans are very good.
‘The first half I felt we controlled most of it. The shape worked really well.
‘Second half became more difficult but against the wind and we couldn’t get out.
‘We dug in and ground out a result.
‘It’s a very, very good win for us.’
The win lifts Doncaster up to 14th in the League One table and sets them up nicely for two home games in the next week over the festive period.
Doncaster welcome Northampton Town to the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday looking to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
