Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says he hasn`t heard from any of the clubs being linked with defender Niall Mason.

Reports earlier this week suggested that Leeds United had been interested in the 21-year-old and fellow Championship clubs Birmingham City, Hull City and Sunderland are all now interested.

Mason, who joined Doncaster on a permanent deal last summer after a successful season on loan from Aston Villa, is moving into the final year of his two-year deal.

Ferguson says he hasn`t had any contact from any of the clubs being linked with Mason and he says it is that time of year when speculation starts to mount as clubs plan for next season.

“I have only seen the speculation,” Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“I know all the clubs that have been mentioned and I know those managers well so I would have imagined I would have had a phone call.

“At this stage of the season, you are going to see a lot of players linked with different clubs.

“I will treat it as it is until something concrete happens.

“Niall is very happy at the football club and to be fair to him, he`s done very well.”

Mason has made 84 appearances for Doncaster in his two seasons with the club, being a regular in the side.

He has shown his versatility playing across the defence as well as in midfield and he has become the regular penalty taker this season scoring three out of three penalties.
