Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is hoping to keep on loan Chelsea midfielder Jordan Houghton at the Keepmoat.
Houghton is currently on loan at Doncaster from the Premier League side until January and Ferguson says he must have a conversation with Chelsea regarding the future of the youngster.
“With Jordan, there is a conversation to be had with Chelsea whether it can be permanent or a continuation of the loan,” Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.
“There`s a conversation needed to be had in terms of what they want really.
“We will know more in the next couple of weeks.
“We need to speak with Chelsea and also in-house here about whether it can be done. We`ve had conversations with them already but no concrete answers.
“Jordan needs to know what is happening because he`s got a contract with Chelsea.
“I have to be careful with the conversations I have with the boy because it all depends on what Chelsea want to do and we`re not at that stage.”
Houghton is in his second loan spell with Doncaster. The 22-year-old played a pivotal part for Doncaster last season until a serious knee injury ended his season in February.
Ferguson was keen to bring Houghton back to the Keepmoat this season and a loan deal until January was agreed when the midfielder returned to full fitness in August.
He has made 53 appearances for Doncaster across his two loan spells.
