Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says he is hoping to do a deal with goalkeeper Ross Etheridge.

Ferguson was hoping to offload the keeper this summer after just one season with the club following his arrival from Accrington Stanley but a broken ankle he suffered in the first week of pre-season training means Etheridge will be out of squad for around four months.

The Doncaster boss is now hoping he can do a deal with Etheridge, leaving him free to find a new club when he returns to full fitness.

“We may look to do a deal with Ross,” Ferguson told The Doncaster Free Press.

“He`d be in the situation then where he couldn`t go to a new club until January.

“You`re talking about seven months which is not ideal for the boy.

“I`ve got to have a conversation to see whether we do anything with him so he`s available in October to go somewhere.

“We`ll wait and see on that.”

Etheridge made just five appearances for Doncaster last season and he had loan spells away from the club with non-league sides Alfreton Town and Lincoln City.
