Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson was delighted with the response from his side as they bounced back from a disappointing defeat in midweek to secure their first win of 2018.

Doncaster put Fleetwood Town to the sword at the Keepmoat Stadium just four days after a heavy 4-2 defeat at Walsall.

Ferguson rang the changes, making five changes to the side from the one that lost at Walsall, and those coming in took their opportunity, as they helped the side beat Fleetwood Town 3-0 and the Doncaster boss was delighted with the response.

“I am absolutely delighted. It was a good solid performance,” Ferguson told his post-match press conference.

“It was a real good battling performanc, so I am delighted with the result and the clean sheet.”

Two goals in the opening 27 minutes saw Doncaster in control as duo Alex Kiwomya and Tom Anderson both scored their first goals for the club.

Kiwomya was making his first start for Doncaster since his summer move from Chelsea. The forward has only just returned from a long-term illness and he opened the scoring on 14 minutes when he poked home from close range.

Having not won in 2018, Rovers soon had the comfort of a two-goal lead when on loan defender Anderson reacted quickest to a John Marquis free-kick.

Any hopes Fleetwood had of a second half comeback were ended inside ten minutes when Anderson headed home to score his second and Rovers third of the game.
