Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is confident a deal will still be done with striker John Marquis.

The striker has already turned down the offer of a new deal from the club this summer but Ferguson says the striker, who netted 26 goals last season for Doncaster, is happy at the club and he expects everything to be sorted before the season starts.

“John will be fine,” Ferguson told the Doncaster Free Press.

“He wants to stay. We want him to stay. It will be done.

“In fact, I would be confident to say it will be done before the season starts.”

Marquis is in the final year of his two-year deal with the club and his form last season, that saw him finish the season as the joint leading goalscorer in League Two as well as the divisions Player of the Year, has seen him linked with a number of clubs including Championship side Ipswich Town.

Doncaster kicked off their pre-season programme on Tuesday night with a 9-0 win at Armthorpe Welfare, with Marquis on target in the game.
