Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says the club are still in talks about bringing Chelsea midfielder Jordan Houghton back to the Keepmoat Stadium.
The 21-year-old was enjoying a successful season on loan at Doncaster last season until a serious knee injury sustained in February forced his return to Stamford Bridge.
Houghton is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the injury and Ferguson says Chelsea would be happy to see him return to Doncaster this season.
“We`re still in talks with Chelsea about Jordan Houghton,” Ferguson told The Sheffield Star.
“That will be a while yet.
“Jordan has had his injury. His rehab has gone very well.
“Chelsea are very happy for him to come to back to us.
“But we just have to see how he gets through the next few weeks.”
Houghton joined Doncaster on a six-month loan deal last August and his impressive form saw the deal extended until the end of the season in January.
The midfielder had been an integral part of the Doncaster promotion push, playing in every league game, until he suffered his injury against Luton Town in February.
The Football League also recognised his form for Doncaster with him being shortlisted for the League Two Player of the Month last November.
Houghton made 36 appearances during his spell with Doncaster last season.
