Doncaster Rovers were right not to go mad in the transfer market during the summer according to director of football Mickey Walker.
Having won promotion to the Championship lots of Rovers fans were hoping for lots of big signings during the summer but had to watch whilst other clubs spent millions.
Walker speaking About Sean O’ Driscoll to the Doncaster Star said “Had he done that it would have changed the complexion of the team and that’s not the way to do it”
Sean O`Driscoll has built a side over the past two years that now know exactly what he wants and how to play football in the right way and have started to prove doubters wrong after a good start to the season.
The former assistant manager continued to say “People sometimes forget that football is a team game. If players know what every other player is doing, and they are well coached, they improve year on year. That is what is happening at the club right now and I am pleased”
No big name signings came to the club during the summer, only last years loan star Matt Mills being a club record signing from Man City for £300,000.
Of the other new signings, John Spicer was released from Burnley, Darren Byfield who was Bristol City`s top scorer last season came after also being released, James Chambers came on a free from Leicester City and Jos Van Nieuwstadt came from the Eridivisie in Holland from Excelsior Rotterdam.
The only other player to cost us any money was Young 19 year old Tomi Ameobi from Leeds United for £20,000.
Walker was also quick to point out how teams have enjoyed success by not changing the squad radically each year.
