Paul Dickov says the players will be returning for pre-season training earlier than was planned at the end of last season.

Dickov is planning for the clubs return to the championship after one season away and the new boss says he wants the players to hit the ground running when the season starts on August 3rd.

Speaking on the Doncaster Rovers official website , Dickov said, ‘The players are going to be back in for pre-season a lot sooner than they were expecting so they can ‘hit the ground running`. By the time we reach the middle of pre-season I would like to think that all the work will have been completed, or the majority of it at least.

“It is important that you use that time to integrate new players into the group, to get that team spirit and bond right, and really look forward to the start of the season”.

Dickov has had a busy start to his Doncaster Rovers management career having been at the FA training complex St George`s Park, doing a training course. He has already been laying the foundations for his squad next season and he now plans to sit down with the nine out of contract players about new deals with the club before moving onto those players he wants to bring in from outside the club.

Rovers players are now expected to return to training later this month as they prepare for next season. The club have yet to announce their pre-season friendly programme, although a game at Bradford City has been announced.

Bradford will host Rovers on the final weekend before the season starts on Saturday July 27th.
