Doncaster Rovers have announced that they have recalled James Coppinger from his loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

Coppinger joined Forest in August on a half season long loan and he was due to return to Doncaster on January 2nd.

Rovers have decided to recall Coppinger early with his deal due to run out at the City Ground next week.

The club will now await Football League approval for the early recall and if approval is given, he will go into the Rovers squad for the South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United, at the Keepmoat on New Year`s Day.

The 31 year old will join up with the squad prior to the game at Preston North End on Saturday but will not be eligible for the game.

The clubs longest serving player, who joined Rovers in 2004, made just six appearances for Forest during his stay at the City Ground.
