Doncaster Rovers lost their first home game of the season to Derby County as the Rams won by the odd goal in five.

Sean O`Driscoll made five changes from the side that beat Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Joseph Mills who has joined on an emergency loan deal from Southampton came straight into the side and Byron Webster made his first start of the season.

Sam Hird, Brian Stock and Dean Shiels were all recalled to the starting line up.

Rovers had an early chance but Sharp saw his long-range effort easily saved by Fielding.

Derby were enjoying plenty of early possession and a string of corners all came to nothing.

Sullivan was forced into a save when Moore got on the end of a Moxey cross.

Rovers were having to rely on long-range efforts and Coppinger was next to try his luck but again it was easily saved by Fielding.

Derby took the lead on nineteen minutes when Moore was on the end of a Bailey cross and he steered the ball past Sullivan.

The goal spurred the visitors on and Bueno tested Sullivan twice in the space of a few minutes.

Rovers thought they should have been awarded a penalty on the half hour after Sharp went down in the box but the referee waved away the appeals.

Rovers were forced into a change before half time when Martin Woods replaced the injured Simon Gillett.

John Oster almost equalised for Rovers early in the second half but his shot was pushed out by Fielding and Stock followed up to shoot wide.

Rovers were looking much the better side in the second half and Woods and Stock both went close.

Just short of the hour though, Rovers were dealt a cruel blow when Green played in Commons and he made no mistake for the visitors.

The goal didn`t seem to halt Rovers and Woods twice went close to getting the home side back into the game.

Rovers got themselves back into the game after a fantastic move that eventually fell to Shiels who fired into the roof of the net.

Shiels scored again within two minutes after good work by Sharp, the striker chased the ball down and fed it to Shiels who beat his man and then fired into the net to bring Rovers level.

Totally against the run of play in the second half, Commons regained the lead for Derby when his fierce shot gave Sullivan no chance.

Rovers laid siege on the Derby goal for the remainder of the game, Sharp was the first to test Fielding.

Coppinger was next to try his luck but failed to trouble the keeper.

Sharp again forced Fielding into a save as Rovers searched for an equalising goal.

Brian Stock had Rovers last effort deep into injury time but failed to trouble the keeper as the ball went harmlessly wide.

A spirited second half performance proved in vain as Rovers deserved at least a point from an entertaining game.
