Doncaster Rovers missed out on the possibility of landing a money-spinning FA Cup tie as they were beaten by Rochdale at the Keepmoat Stadium.

A solitary Calvin Andrew was enough to send Rochdale through to the fourth round and despite Doncaster creating a number of chances, they couldn`t find a way past Josh Lillis in the visitor`s goal.

Doncaster struggled to find any momentum in the first half and Rochdale scored the only goal of the game on 18 minutes when Andrew headed home a Joe Bunney free-kick.

Bunney could have doubled the lead for Rochdale in the first half but his effort was well saved by Ian Lawlor.

Doncaster were left frustrated in the second half. Alfie Beestin had a great early chance but Lillis saved his effort.

Referee Andy Woolmer also frustrated Doncaster as he waved away a number of penalty appeals.

Tommy Rowe blasted over the bar for Doncaster when he should have done better and you knew it was going to be one of those afternoons when striker John Marquis saw his shot hit the post just past the hour.
