Despite earlier rumours that Huddersfield’s Peter Jackson was in the running, news is breaking on the South Coast that Bournemouth manager Sean O’Driscoll has accepted the Belle Vue job.

However, with O’Driscoll having won nothing more than the occasional manager of the month award, Rovers fans will feel bitterly let down.

John Ryan had hyped the fans and press with names such as Kevin Keegan and the club’s official site had ‘big name’ managers Peter Reid and Gary Megson listed in a poll, not the lowly calibre of a League One manager.

Without wishing to condemn O’Driscol before his first game in charge, Rovers fans may well be calling for his head at the end of the season if the team fail to make the play-offs as that would be seen as a step backwards.

Ironically, the game against Bournemouth was Dave Penney’s last game in charge at Belle Vue.
