Blackburn Rovers secured promotion with a 1-0 win at  Doncaster Rovers on a rain-soaked night at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Charlie Mulgrew scored the only goal of the game with just ten minutes remaining to ensure Blackburn made an instant return to the Championship.

Blackburn had the first chance of the game when leading goalscorer Danny Graham got around Marko Marosi in the Doncaster goal but he could only send his shot across goal.

Doncaster defender Andy Butler then denied Adam Armstrong with a goal-line clearance.

Marosi then had to react well to keep out a Charlie Mulgrew free-kick as the visitors searched for an opener.

Craig Conway was next to go close for Blackburn but he couldn’t keep his effort down as it just cleared the crossbar.

Alfie Beestin had Doncaster’s first real chance but David Raya in the Blackburn goal turned his effort away.

Blackburn then missed a great chance to go ahead when Bradley Dack turned an on target shot from Armstrong wide of the target.

Ben Whiteman then tested Raya in the Blackburn goal with a low shot as the half ended goalless.

Blackburn continued to press for an opener in the second half and it looked like resolute defending was going to keep them out until ten minutes from the end.

Dack sent in a corner and Mulgrew headed past Marosi to end Doncaster’s stubborn resistance.

Doncaster had a late chance to grab an equaliser but Mathieu Baudry could only head straight at Raya.

Blackburn saw out the remainder of the game as the celebrated promotion at the end of the game.
