Doncaster would now feel they have the advantage in their League One play-off with Southend now having managed to come through their away leg with a 0-0 draw on Friday night, although Paul Hefferman was sent off late on for a headbutt on Paul Clarke.

The result pleased Sean O’Driscoll who didn’t think there was much between the sides: ‘They were two good teams that cancelled each other out,’ O’Driscoll told BBC Sport. ‘We got on top in the second half but Southend came storming back and I think it will be tight in the second leg.

‘We were disciplined and organised, played when we had the opportunity to but I would have liked to create a few more goalscoring chances.’

Do Doncaster have the upper hand going into the home second leg on Friday, or will that count for nothing?
